Questions
Who can join Atal Pension Yojana?
Indian citizens aged 18 to 40 with a savings bank or post office account. Since 1 October 2022, anyone who is or has been an income-tax payer cannot join. In January 2026 the Union Cabinet extended the scheme up to 2030-31.
What happens after 60 or on death?
You get the guaranteed pension for life. After your death your spouse gets the same pension, and after both, the nominee receives the corpus: ₹1.7 lakh for a ₹1,000 pension up to ₹8.5 lakh for ₹5,000. If you die before 60, your spouse can continue the account or take the money.
Where do these contribution amounts come from?
They are from the official APY contribution chart (PFRDA). You can also pay quarterly or half-yearly; contributions are auto-debited from your bank account, and late payments attract a small penalty of ₹1–₹10 a month.
