Questions
Why is paying only the minimum due a trap?
Interest is charged on the whole unpaid balance at about 3.5–3.75% a month, plus 18% GST on that interest, so a 5% minimum due barely reduces what you owe. A ₹1 lakh bill can take decades to clear and cost several times the original amount in interest.
Do I lose the interest-free period?
Yes. If you don't pay the full bill by the due date, most cards charge interest on every purchase from the date of the transaction, and new purchases get no interest-free period until the balance is fully cleared.
How can I get out of card debt faster?
Pay as much above the minimum as you can, convert the balance into an EMI plan, or take a cheaper personal loan to close it. Avoid new card spending until the balance is zero.
