Questions
What is net worth?
Net worth = total assets − total liabilities. It is the money you would have left if you sold everything and paid off every loan. Track it once or twice a year; a rising net worth matters more than the number itself.
Which values should I use?
Today's market value for property, gold, shares and vehicles (a vehicle is worth much less than its purchase price), the current balance for EPF, PPF and NPS, and the outstanding principal for loans.
What is a healthy debt ratio?
Debt ratio = liabilities ÷ assets. Below 30–40% is comfortable; above 50% means most of what you own is financed by loans.
