Questions
How much area does 1 litre of paint cover?
Most interior emulsions cover about 100–140 sq ft per litre per coat on a smooth, primed wall; textured or porous walls need more. Exterior and enamel paints differ — the coverage is printed on every tin.
How many coats of paint are needed?
Two coats over a primer is standard for new walls or a colour change. A single fresh coat may do when repainting the same light colour.
Should I include primer and putty?
Yes for new plaster or patchy walls. Primer coverage is similar to paint, so run the calculator again with 1 coat for primer. Putty is sold by weight — check the coverage printed on the bag.
