Questions
How is typing speed (WPM) calculated?
Every 5 characters (including spaces) count as one word. Net WPM = correctly typed characters ÷ 5 ÷ minutes. Gross WPM counts every character you typed, right or wrong.
What is a good typing speed?
Around 40 WPM is average. The SSC CHSL typing test (LDC/JSA) needs 35 WPM in English or 30 WPM in Hindi on a computer, and 50–60 WPM is very good.
How can I type faster?
Learn touch typing with fingers resting on the home row (A S D F – J K L ;), look at the screen instead of the keys, and practise accuracy first — speed follows.
