Questions
How much caffeine is safe?
The US FDA says up to 400 mg a day is generally not linked to harmful effects in healthy adults. During pregnancy, doctors (ACOG) advise staying below 200 mg a day. Children and teenagers should have much less — Health Canada suggests no more than 2.5 mg per kg of body weight.
How much caffeine is in Indian chai and filter coffee?
It varies a lot with how strong it is brewed. A typical cup of milky chai has about 30–50 mg and a tumbler of filter coffee roughly 60–100 mg. The figures used here are middle values; check labels on packaged drinks.
What do Indian rules say about energy drinks?
FSSAI limits caffeinated beverages to 145–300 mg of caffeine per litre (up to 75 mg in a 250 ml can) and requires labels warning that they are not recommended for children, pregnant or breastfeeding women and people sensitive to caffeine.
